Why does anxiety make you sweat?

 


We all sweat, but something about stress causes us to break out in the kind of sweat we're afraid everyone will see — and worse, smell. But don't worry. It's probably not as noticeable to others as you believe when your stress level rises and you start to sweat under your arms.

Your body's natural response to a perceived threat is stress. Adrenaline, cortisol, and other stress chemicals are released. It also causes your heart rate to rise and your muscles to tense in order to aid in your fight preparation.

Sweat is released by your sweat glands to assist cool your body and balance the electrolytes and fluids in your body, moisturizes our skin. Nerves that are sensitive to emotions, hormones, and other stimuli trigger your sweat glands. Your body temperature rises when you are stressed, causing your sweat glands to activate.

Excessive sweating that impairs your confidence or interferes with your life could be due to a medical disease called hyperhidrosis. If you're concerned that you're sweating excessively, talk to your doctor about treatment options.
